Wendy Darwell is president/CEO of the Suburban Hospital Alliance of New York State (SHANYS). The organization advocates on behalf of hospitals in the Hudson Valley and Long Island regions through its regional associations, the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association (Hudson Valley) and the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council (Long Island). It engages key lawmakers and regulatory decision makers in Albany and Washington to ensure reasonable and rational health care policy prevails. Wendy began her tenure as CEO in 2021, after serving as Chief Operating Officer for 13 years. Wendy is recognized as one of the region’s leading healthcare policy experts. She offers historical and extensive knowledge about healthcare economics and finance, Medicare and Medicaid structures, compliance, workforce, quality improvement, community benefit, health insurance, and emergency preparedness. She previously served as the late Congressman Maurice Hinchey’s chief of staff, where she supervised the operation of five district offices and directed the legislative, media, and political operations. She holds an MBA from Hofstra University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from American University. She is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
